KhanaGadi- Food On Wheels!

While the Indian Government seeks to revolutionise the Indian railways, KhanaGadi joins the league to provide good food to the passengers. It has eased the process of ordering food through apps, social networks or phone calls.

About KhanaGadi:

It was started in July 2015 by Amit Deep Kumar and was joined by Sunil Kumar Awasthi and Rakesh Gupta.
Passengers travelling in the Indian Railways can now order their favourite food at 200 major stations, right from Ambala to Chennai and Guhwati to Rajkot, through their Meal on Seat  program. It works through the aggregation model of vendors, whose quality is monitored through 'Standard Operating Procedures'. They have a wide variety of 25,000 food items across the different cuisines: North Indian, South Indian, Continental, Punjabi, Mughlai, Rajasthani, Gujarati and many interesting options like Mini Meals and Combo Meals.

" We have designed our menu and various combos keeping in mind the Train environment and have created a menu bank that can offer you around 3 types of cuisines per station.", says Sunil.

How can one place the order?

The team seeks to ease the process of ordering food through: 

Mobile App: 

KhanaGadi's app is available on android and IOS store. All you need to do is enter their train number, PNR number, select the cuisine and the station where you wish to receive your order.

WhatsApp: Simply WhatsApp your Train number and/or PNR to 7568666347.

We cannot trust our networks during train journeys, which at times leads to difficulties in logging through the app or website. So you can whatsApp them your order along with the PNR number and train number.

The order can be placed at any time before the minimum order time which is 45 minutes. "We receive prebookings from 4-5months to 1 day before the journey also." says Amit. The prices start from Rs. 50 for Ala Carte items and Rs.120 for meals. The payment can be made through credit cards, debit cards, mobile wallets, net banking, cash on delivery.

How did this idea come up?

In June 2015, Amit was traveling to Varanasi through a train, when he realised the need for good food during a train journey. It is a tough time for you when there is a long haul train journey awaiting you without proper meals. Once he was back to Jaipur, he decided to launch KhanaGadi to solve this problem and was gradually joined by Sunil Kumar Awasthi and Rakesh Gupta.

Amit Deep Kumar - Founder and CEO 

Amit has 18 years of diversified experience in multiple roles across QSR, Food Retail, F&B services and more. He has worked with renowned brands in the industry such as McDonalds, Reliance Retail and many other. His interest lies in start-ups, strategic marketing, and operations. He is known as "The Archer" in the team for his precise planning and focussed approach and juggling between process stabilization, fund raising, managing finance, marketing and business process framework for technology team.

Sunil Kumar Awasthi - Co-Founder and COO

With more than 45 years of culinary experience in almost all leading hotel brands, food retail chains and flight kitchens across the globe, he looks after the right menu assortment for food delivery menu. Having worked with global hospitality brands, Mr. Awasthi is the Chief Designer and "Go To" person for everything when it comes to designing the food options. He takes the final decision about what goes to KhanaGadi's Menu and the final presentation along with developing innovative packaging solutions for Food on the GO. 

Rakesh Gupta - Co-Founder and CTO

Rakesh has done MCA from the university of Rajasthan in 2004 and has had extensive experience in creating some cool tech products both in India and Overseas. He handles the core technology at KhanaGadi and tries to innovate and evolve the technical aspects of KhanaGadi.

Future Plans:

They plan to target the niche segments such as diabetic or cardiac travellers who currently do not have many options in meals while travelling by train. They further seek to extend their operations for door-step deliveries and for bus journeys.
